Sept. 25, 2010, the 4th Ottawa Tenants Conference will be held at
Andrew Haydon Hall at 110 Laurier Avenue West (City Hall) 9:00 -4:00. It
is open to tenants who live on the private market or reside in social
rental housing. The key goals of the conference are to provide practical
information to tenants as well as address structural policy. Along with
workshops and guest speakers, there will be legal services available
throughout the day to assist tenants with their specific problems, while
the workshops provide an opportunity for smaller group discussions and
networking. Themes may include maintenance, rent increases, evictions,
the Residential Tenancies Act and the Human Rights Code. There will also
be a Mayoral All Candidates Debate about municipal issues concerning
tenants.
Admission is free and lunch is provided. Bus tickets and a limited
number of daycare subsidies are also available on a first come, first
served basis. In addition, each participant will receive a Tenant Kit
which contains information about tenants rights, issues and resources
available in Ottawa. For information or to register, go to

School Supplies
Donations of school supplies are urgently needed for the
Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre’s low-income families. The
supplies can be dropped off at 860 Taylor Creek Drive, Unit 4 on
Tuesdays (11:30am-7pm), Wednesdays or Fridays (9am-Noon). If you are in
need of school supplies and reside in the Cumberland sector, call Tracy
Pressé or Isabelle Diotte at 613-830-4357.

The Ottawa Poverty Reduction Network is a group of concerned citizens and social services agencies that came together in early 2008 to support the participation of low income individuals in the development of Ontario's Poverty Reduction Strategy. This Network has also been involved with the Ottawa’s Poverty Reduction Strategy that has been adopted by City Council in January of this year.

The Power Show is back, and it’s got even more horse power than ever. Come
to Cumberland Heritage Village Museum May 29 and 30 to take part in our
exciting annual event. Enjoy live entertainment, a horse pull competition,
Grass Hog lawn tractor racing, antique cars and vintage motorcycles, artisan
demonstrations, telegraphers, scale-model trains, steam-powered machines and
more. The fun runs all day Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. The
